Mayor Lori Lightfoot threatened partiers with jail time during a recent news conference.

WATCH:

Now I’ve directed Superintendent Brown to order all police districts to give special attention to these parties and this is how it’s gonna be: we will shut you down, we will cite you, and if we need to, we will arrest you and we will take you to jail.

There should be nothing unambiguous about that. Don’t make us treat you like a criminal but if you act like a criminal and you violate the law and you refuse to do what is necessary to save lives in the city in the middle of a pandemic we will take you to jail.

So, that means if you host a party, if you promote a party, if you go to a party, we’re not playing games, we mean business and we are going to shut this down one way or the other.

The time for educating people into compliance is over, don’t be stupid don’t come out, don’t advertise on social media, we’re watching you and we are going to take decisive action.

Photos surfaced earlier this month showing Lightfoot after she got a haircut amid the state’s stay-at-home orders.

Chicago Tribune reported Mayor Lori Lightfoot defended getting a haircut over the weekend even though barbers and stylists were shut down under the state’s stay-at-home order, saying she’s the face of the city and the woman who cut her hair wore a mask.

Asked about photos on social media showing her with a stylist, Lightfoot acknowledged getting a haircut, then said the public cares more about other issues.

“I think what really people want to talk about is, we’re talking about people dying here. We’re talking about significant health disparities. I think that’s what people care most about,” Lightfoot said.

In response to a follow-up question, she said, “The woman who cut my hair had a mask and gloves on so we are, I am practicing what I’m preaching.”

Asked about that, a visibly annoyed Lightfoot said, “I’m the public face of this city. I’m on national media and I’m out in the public eye.

“I’m a person who, I take my personal hygiene very seriously. As I said, I felt like I needed to have a haircut,” Lightfoot said. “I’m not able to do that myself, so I got a haircut. You want to talk more about that?”

Socialist Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, 35th, criticized Lightfoot’s explanation for the haircut.

“She is under no obligation to look good on national TV. She is under no obligation to book national interviews. But she is under an obligation to follow and promote social distancing in order to save lives,” Ramirez-Rosa, a frequent Lightfoot critic, tweeted. “This is a bad example for our city.”

Asked about Lightfoot’s haircut, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said he couldn’t speak to the mayor’s situation but hasn’t had a trim since the stay-at-home order.

“I’m going to turn into a hippie at some point,” he said.
